Hi all, Kim Bunker here. Recently I e-mailed a customer a few pictures
and a description of a Fischer Ampico with the player completely
restored in and out (new finish) except for strings. This was a
potential sale, customer generated over time, because of our rebuilding
reputation on-line across America, also from previous customers, eBay,
MMD, our web site, etc.
This customer wanted to be sure it was a good investment so he went
to the Player Piano Ring, which we are members of, and asked a person
(who will remain nameless at this point) his professional opinion on
the purchase of such a player. This nameless person at this point
conveyed to our customer -- without additional information like Who,
What and When about this piano -- and said it appeared unrestored, both
the Ampico reproducer and the piano finish, and was worth half of our
quote, possibly even less than that.
Now understand that he formulated this opinion about something he
obviously knows nothing about (not an experienced player rebuilder).
Also, when looking at photographs you should always ask more exacting
questions; you really "can't judge a book by it's cover." Food for
thought!
