Hooghuys Organs in Belgium
By Bjorn Isebaert

Dear MMD'ers, First of all, I'd like to thank all the people who sent
me a reaction about the Hooghuys organs and I'd like to thank the MMD
editors for the posting the pictures and comments on the net! (Just
a little remark, my own fault: the 72-key Hooghuys organ of Mr. Vroman
isn't a dance hall organ (originally it was) but now it is being used
as a fair organ).

The organ Mr. Ramet saw was the organ of Mr. Vroman. The music of this
organ wasn't all cut by Charles Hooghuys. The organ, by the way, was
built by Louis Hooghuys, although the facade mentions Charles Hooghuys.

There are some books with the label of Charles Hooghuys, but Mr. Vroman
also has some books by Louis Hooghuys, Romain-Charles Hooghuys, Marc
Hooghuys and Victor Hooghuys, and also by August Schollaert, Abel
Frans, Arthur Prinsen and Filip Neirynck. As you can see, the Hooghuys
family was and is really musical.

There's quite a lot of 'old' and very nice music with the organ, which
Mr. Vroman always tries to keep in good condition.

As an addition I send a picture of a 70-key Hooghuys organ, formerly
owned by Albert Becquart. Some members told me they had a record of
a Hooghuys organ, called "Mammoth fair organ" and asked me which organ
this is. Well, this organ is now owned by Fr. Kopp. For more details,
I refer to my posting on the MMD of 1997.04.07.

On the picture I sent, the organ still has got its original facade.
Nowadays, it has an other one (still nice), with three statues on it,
who were originally placed on the original facade of the organ of
Mr. Vroman.

Well, I hope you do enjoy the pictures and again to Jody and Robbie:
thanks a lot !

Best greetings,

Bjorn Isebaert
