I think I joined MMD the way a lot of people have. I began reading
the MMD Archives and then waited everyday for the most recent postings.
Now I am taking the step to be an active participant!
I would just like to reminisce a bit about life since the Internet.
I wonder how we lived before. I certainly have gained 20 years
experience in one year on-line. I met Marty Roenigk when I bought
a carousel horse from Mechantiques web site. I met Bruce Zubee when
I bought carousel related items from Bruce and a 146B from a want ad on
his web site. I met Ron Bopp when I ordered his book "Carousel Organ"
(a great book and a must for anyone with an organ). I met Bill Black
through his articles on the Carousel Network and MMD.
I bought rolls from Matt Caulfield and Al Pebworth after I met them
on eBay and MMD. I have bought items on eBay from Wales, Australia,
England, Japan and every state in the U.S. except Alaska. I have
corresponded with people from England, The Netherlands and Belgium
that I met on MMD.
I will be leaving for The Netherlands this week on a horse buying trip
(business). Thanks to the Internet, I have maps, information and
contacts for visiting places with mechanical music. It's a small
world. We are all getting to know each other better and faster than
ever before. I don't think we fully appreciate all the new information
and opportunities available to us yet. Thanks, Jody and Robbie, for
having the foresight to start this web site.
Also, hats off (in Minnesota we wear big hats) to Ron Bopp, Angelo
Rulli and Terry Haughawout for the publication of the Carousel Organ
(another must for all organ enthusiasts). The American answer to
Het Pierement!
That's enough rambling for one day. Thanks all.

[ Welcome aboard MMD, Bill, and have fun with Dutch street organs.

[ Jody started MMD in April, 1995, with an initial list of 47
[ subscribers provided by Terry Smythe. Today MMD is read by
[ more than 1000 subscribers around the world; most of those
[ original 47 folks are still with us! -- Robbie
