I'll be sending my cheque off on Monday morning!"
Okay, so I'm a sceptic. I responded to a similar post in MMD 990711,
and sent my 24 pounds over six months ago. Allowing that this was a
volunteer organisation seeking pre-publication orders, I sat patiently
and waited. After several months with no response I emailed the gent
who made the original posting; no response. I posted a query in MMD
991206 asking if any UK members were aware of the status of the
project; no response.
I emailed the gentleman from the Fair Organ Preservation Society who
posted recently about their new book, but he knew nothing of the St
Albans project. I have written by air mail to the Trustee of the St
Albans Museum seeking information, but, to be fair, it is still too
soon to expect a reply.
I realise that these things take time, especially for a volunteer
organisation with limited funds, but I don't think it is appropriate
to ask again for folk to send money into an apparent black hole (or
even into an indefinite loan), especially when the project was said
to be "ready for publication" in July last year.
It would help to remove some of the mystery, and perhaps instill some
confidence, if someone from the St Albans Museum could post a few
specific details, such as
- the number of orders required to proceed,
- the number of orders already in hand,
- the cut-off date for a decision as to whether to proceed, and
- the likely publication date.
