Regarding the tear-jerker ballads, I was also going to recommend
"Break the News to Mother". I have it by Henry Burr and Quartette
on Columbia. Another great three-Kleenex Henry Burr tune is "Angels
(We Call Them Mothers Down Here)". Also don't forget "Mr. Radio Man",
about a little boy attempting to communicate with his deceased father
through the airwaves. I don't have "Hello Central - Give Me Heaven",
but it also sounds like the same type of theme.
I have been searching for web sites that have downloadable MPEG or
*.wav files of 1920's and 30's popular music, such as George Olsen,
Rudy Vallee, Gene Austin, Nat Shilkret, etc. There are many sites
featuring current new music both on the Web and the Usenet, however
I cannot seem to locate any sites dedicated the period of music I enjoy
most, that being from about the start of the electrical recording age
until just after the depression. I am sure there are Victor Ortho-
phonic disc collectors out there who are attempting to put their entire
collection on a web site or Usenet group, but I sure can't find them.
Any leads would be appreciated.
Also, If anyone has a copy to sell of "Now's The Time To Fall In Love"
and "Bend Down, Sister" by George Olsen and his Music, please let me
know.
