Band Organ March in MIDI (Original Composition)
By Mike Knudsen

I'm all out of ragtime, but I took an old march of mine, from around
1975, and arranged it in MIDI to sound sort of like a band organ.
I had never written it down before last week, and it still has never
touched paper, having gone directly to mouse. (The same is true of
"The Homely Coed" on my web site). Years ago I thought this would make
a good band organ number, but oddly I waited till now to do something.
I guess I waited till I had all my rags transcribed.

The piece is called "St. George's March" (originally "Pound For Pound")
after the main church in Beckenham, Kent, just south of London, where
I spent a week two years ago and had a great time getting to know the
English people.

My arrangement sounds more like a European than American band organ,
except for the interludes, which sound more like American football
half-time. It's my first attempt at adding percussion to a MIDI file
using my UltiMusE program, but luckily it sounds more authentic being
a little clunky and behind the beat. Anyway, it should be good fun
listening. Almost makes up for no longer being able to attend those
MBSI Midwest organ rallies. Maybe someday I'll hear it punched up for
a real organ.

My web site, with all those MIDI rags, is still
