In MMD 000113 D. L. Bullock inquired about the Victorian Song "An Hour
Too Late." It took me a while to find it, but the music is printed in
the 1971 Simon & Schuster book, "Trust Me With Your Heart Again, Turn-
of-the-Century Sheet Music Collected by Norman Stillman", page 154.
The title is "An Hour Too Late", words by Horace Huron, music by
W. M. Barnes, copyright 1899 by Horace Huron, published by Horace
Huron, Rock Island, Illinois.
The cover has "newspaper clippings" with headlines such as "Mother
Kills Self and Boy -- Suffocated by gas -- She tried faithfully for
work, but could not find it -- Husband Heartbroken" and, as they say,
much, much more.
As tear-jerkers go, I think it's great! If you can't find it,
I'll be happy to scan it for you.
I hope it makes you happy. (Boo Hoo)

[ In a mock melodrama satirizing the Salvation Army, the chorus
[ girls sang, "If it makes you happy it's wrong, yes, it's wrong!"
[ And a mock tear-jerker on 1950s TV was, "Play Me a Hurtin' Tune",
[ ending with, " 'cause I feel so good when I feel bad!" :-)
