Duo-Art Artist Hugh Hodgson
By Tim Baxter

Dear MMDers: It came to my attention recently that Hugh Hodgson,
a musician associated with the Atlanta music scene in the early part
of this century (and also the organist and choir master at my church,
St. Luke's Episcopal, for 40 years), was an artist who made several
Duo-Art rolls.

The piano chair of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is endowed in
Mr. Hodgson's name, and he is also the subject of several memorials
at our church. Because of the local interest, I am going to try and
collect (or copy) his Duo-Art performances. Thus two questions:

1. Do y'all have any Hugh Hodgson Duo-Art rolls you would lend me for
scanning/duplication by the trustworthy folks at Custom Music Rolls?

2. Is anyone aware of whether Mr. Hodgson recorded for Aeolians
other instruments (i.e., player organ)? Our church is presently being
renovated, and the organ console is being replaced with a full "modern"
deal which will include MIDI input -- a neat project for the first
recital on the restored organ would be to have a concert by Mr. Hodgson
rendered to MIDI from an old organ roll.

Sorry for the lengthy and bizarre requests. Happy New Year to everyone!

All the best,

Timothy Baxter
Atlanta, GA
