Musical Memory and Autism
By Ed Berlin

George Perle, composer and author of excellent books on serialism
and on Alban Berg, told me of a remarkable ability he had when he
was young.

If someone used palms or arms to play two clusters on the piano,
he could identify the pitches within the cluster that were NOT
sounded. As he aged, this ability slipped away.

In comparison to individuals like Perle, I fear I must be deaf.
