I followed up the offer to lend me a copy of the "Siegfried" roll
I wanted from someone in South Africa, but unfortunately he has just
moved and cannot find the roll. I therefore contacted Bob Berkman from
QRS and he has offered to help by cutting some more copies as a private
arrangement.
I am therefore proposing to have a small one-time only run made of QRS
roll no 7119, "We're Going to Hang Out the Washing on the Siegfried
Line". This was sung by Flanagan & Allen in 1939-40, when the roll was
issued, and was also played I think by Ambrose's orchestra. Chesney
Allen was my great uncle but I have never managed to find an old copy
of this roll at a sensible price. In the Rettig's roll auction in USA
a copy some years ago fetched almost =L= 30, or US$55 !
Copies from the original arrangement, _without words_, will be made
for around =L= 10 each; if you are interested please contact me as soon
as possible, delivery in about two to three months time.
If you particularly want the words printed on the roll, I would
consider this option, but the additional cost is $200 _extra_ (about
=L= 125) on the cost of the punching run. This would be okay spread
among 50 or 100 people, but I am not so sure about only 10 people,
as the roll price would have to be =L= 20 per roll!
Let me have your comments please within _three weeks_ so I know what
to order in early January. Thank You.
