Hello all, This is not my field of expertise and I'm in a deep hole
with a strong smell of manure! I (foolishly) agreed to repair a small
(originally cheap) music box movement which has high sentimental value.
The endless screw or worm which turns the governor fan is broken
(the less said about that the better) and I need to repair or replace
it urgently to save face and reputation! Exact replacement of the part
would be best since excess friction at this point would soon stop the
works.
This simple movement is possibly French or Swiss, maybe from early this
century and plays part of the Toreador's song from Carmen. It was
mounted under a porcelain bowl and operates when the bowl is lifted.
The governor shaft is about 17 mm tip to tip, 14 mm to the pivots,
0.6 mm pivot diam., and the fan is about 22 mm across.
I am hoping someone knows this type of movement and can suggest a
repair which is not out of proportion with the value of the item. It
would be nice if someone has a spare part from a similar movement or
a complete repairable movement so I can exchange cylinders. The base
is 66 mm by 51 mm and the cylinder is 32 mm long, 19 mm diam. and plays
a 29-tooth comb. All the measurements are approximate.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
