Archival Acid-Free Repair Tape for Roll Repairs
By Sam Harris
During the recent flooding here in eastern North Carolina I had about
five days where we could not do anything but sit at home and wonder if
we were going to be air-lifted out. During that time I decided to catch
up on the roll mending I had been putting off for years.
About a year ago I bid and won a few rolls from Larry Norman and
decided to go up for a visit and save a little on the shipping. Larry
was a wonderful host. I had a great time talking with him and listening
to the rolls I had won. He had the mending tape there and asked if
I needed any. I decided to buy a roll and he included the wonderful
treatise on roll repair.
During the flood I used the archival transparent mending tissue to
repair the rolls and I found it wonderful to use. It's adhesion
properties are wonderful and I would not want to have to remove it.
The greatest thing I noticed was that the rolls which had extensive edge
repairs did not creep when they came across the tracker bar. I followed
Mr. Norman's advice to the letter and the rolls work as well as when
new. This one benefit is worth the cost and time needed to use this
tape.
If you never intend on using the archival transparent mending tissue
you owe it to yourself to get a copy of the roll repair treatise Larry
has prepared. I think the techniques explained are superior.
Thanks Larry for going out on a limb and being our provider of
the archive tape and also for taking the time to make the treatise
available. I really appreciate it.
