Music Roll Deterioration

Dan Wilson notes in 991123 MMDigest that rolls deteriorate more in the
US than the UK.  I agree.  I believe this is due to our equable
climate: rarely too hot or too cold or too wet or too dry.  Contrast
this with the US Mid-West which bakes in the Summer and freezes in the
Winter.

Pianos seem to like our climate too.  The horror stories such as badly
cracked sound boards do not seem to be a UK problem.
