Speaking of adopting a player, I would like to remind readers that
Soper Piano Co. in Chantilly, VA (703-327-4990) has a 6' Steck grand of
1909 vintage with an Aeolian Themodist player action, foot pumped, with
a 65/88 note tracker bar that needs a loving owner who would like to
have it rebuilt.
In my correspondence with others I have found this kind of player to
be a very rare item and would alert anyone who wants it to contact
Tim immediately as he is planning to return it to Rick Schaffer of
Rockville MD, who put it in Tim's place to see if it could be sold.
It would be a shame to see such a beautiful piano with its light finish
and inlay work not to be placed in a caring home. Unfortunately I live
in an apartment and don't have enough money to get it at present unless
some generous soul wants to buy it for me.
I may sound like a nut case, and some have told me that I'm somewhat
crazy, but I talk to those old upright pianos in the store and play
the wonderful rolls from Artcraft, N.E.M.R., BluesTone, Phantom
Fingers, Collectors Classics, Klavier and others to brighten my day
as I go about the store dusting and cleaning them up so they will shine
brightly for the customers, whenever they decide to come. Other
players we have in the store are a 1921 Aeolian Duo-Art upright and
a Beckwith player.
When customers come to the store and talk about their players I get
their names and addresses and immediately send them to the recutting
firms to add to their customer list. I also collect their email
addresses where possible for those firms.
Soper Piano Company, where old pianos come to get a new home and
resurrection for another life with another family.
