Dear MMD readers, I just purchased a Gem Roller Organ and would like
some advice. The pads which cover the reed holes make a sort of
clicking noise when they close against the holes. I can recover them
with a softer material if it would make a difference. Has anyone had
any experience with redoing these valves to quiet them down?
How critical is the left to right alignment of the cob to the valves?
I see that there are adjustment screws to move the carriage left to
right, and I know that the cob rotates three times around in a spiral.
Other than redoing these pads and redoing the external bellows valves,
the organ is in good condition, including the bellows cloth and the
gold stenciling on the case. (I will keep the bellows until they give
out and then redo them.)
Also I got 15 cobs (with recognizable tunes) with the organ. However,
I am looking for more cobs. Does anyone have some for sale, and does
anyone know of sources for more cobs.
Finally, what is a restored Gem Roller Organ worth and what should
I expect to pay for cobs?
Thanks for all your help
