Unknown Music Rolls
By Brian Chesters

I have just been given two music rolls and I have no idea what they
are for. The paper width is 11-3/4 inches. The spool has wooden ends:
left one has a round hole, the right one has a similar hole with a slot
cut for a drive pin.

The roll title and instructions are printed on the paper, on the same
side as an 88-note roll, but the playing instructions are on the oppo-
site side, making me think it plays bottom to top. The two rolls are
numbered 223, Poet & Peasant, and 1020, The Lost Chord. They are both
imprinted "Roll this tight before and after playing music". The boxes
are both white inner box and black outer box with hand-written labels.

Anyone have any idea what they are from?
