A few weeks ago we were talking about the "mechanical" sound of
computer-generated piano music, or rather music scanned by a computer
from non-hand-played piano rolls. I claimed that with decent software,
a patient user could add quite a lot of expression and articulation
phrasing.
Thirteen years ago I started building my own graphic composition
program, UltiMusE, and you can now hear some samples of what I can do
with it.
Even farther back when I was rebuilding and then enjoying my Duo-Art
(and finishing up a Ph.D. thesis on the side :-), I also started
composing piano rags. Using my UltiMusE program, I have transcribed
several of these into standard MIDI files that can be downloaded from
my new Web home page:

Although these are not hand played, I hope you'll find them more
expressive than the early non-hand piano rolls. Feel free to email me
any comments. I'd also be interested in having rolls cut from some of
my rags, via the .MID files.
