Carousel Music in "The Sting"
By Dan Robinson

The film that featured John Leonard's North Tonawanda Style 173 band
organ is not "The Sting," but another movie starring Robert Redford,
"The Natural." I have read that the music is audible in a carnival
scene at the beginning of the film.

The carousel scenes in "The Sting" were filmed at the PTC #62 carousel
at Santa Monica Pier, California. I do not believe the organ is shown,
but it is definitely the Wurlitzer 153 that is there now. The tunes
playing (on Wurlitzer 150 rolls) include "Listen To The Mocking Bird,"
"King Cotton," "The Diplomat," and "Washington Post."
