Hello everybody, Sorry for my delayed response; I was not able
to mail earlier. First of all, thanks, Jody, to put me on the MMD
list, and thanks Robbie for editing my introduction in MMD 991024.
The Fratihymnia has 36 cello bass pipes: the 12 lowest pipes are
standing on a smaller wind chest on the floor. These pipes reach
to the ceiling, and some have an L-shape, one even a U-shape.
The large wind chest supports Piccolos, Violins, Flutes, Clarinets
and Oboes. These five registers have 32 notes. (Only the Violins can
also play with tremolo.)
Then there is a 36-note harmonium with the voices Baritone Horn and
English Horn. There is a 28-note xylophone and a 15-note metallophone
(or "Glocken" -- so it is written on the register unit). The piano
has also a harp effect.
Then, let's say, the non-melodic instruments: bass drum (with three
beaters), cymbal, snare drum with two beaters (the snares can be
damped), tambourine with shaker and beater, castanets and triangle.
The testing so far, only letting the piano play, was done in an
experimental setup. I still have to build a wind machine, for pressure
and suction.
According to the types mentioned in Bowers' Encyclopedia this one
could have been a Fratihymnia No. 6 or No. 7, I think. It would be
nice to find another one, in order to rebuild the cabinet and to
position all the instruments in the original way.
Does anybody know the existence of an instrument like this? Any
suggestions will be appreciated very much. Thanks in advance,
Greetings from Holland,
Willy van der Reijden
