Greetings: I am presently restoring a 1926 French Mustel Harmonium
with an American player mechanism. I am hoping that someone may be
able to help me solve a few mysteries regarding this instrument.
The harmonium was made in France in 1926. The player mechanism was
manufactured in the States and fitted into the Mustel cabinet. We
believe the player unit was built by Aeolian. A separate cabinet
contains the electric motor (American, 60 Hz) and a Welte pump and
Ampico regulator!
The blower for the Harmonium was manufactured in Switzerland and runs
on a 50 Hz motor. The instrument, using pressure, can also be pumped
by foot. I also have nearly 100 original Mustel Rolls in nearly
perfect condition!
Does anyone know of a connection between Mustel and any American
company? I had read that Mustel helped Mason & Hamlin develop the
Liszt Model reed organ, but I am unable to locate any history regarding
Mustel's connection to American produced player mechanisms.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Thomas Gregory
