Aeolian Autograph Rolls
By Alan Whytock
I have just found an unboxed roll of Liszts Transcription of Saint
Saens Danse Macabre number TL35000 (Aeolian). Just above the words on
the leader "Full scale THEMODIST" I find in very small letters
"autograph". Into the first few notes and I find a few words
apparently handwritten (or perhaps a very good rubber stamp) by Maurice
Mozkowsky in French (he spent the last 30 years or so of his life in
Paris) stating that this music roll for the Pianola had been marked by
him and that therefore this piece was his interpretation.
This is the first time I have come across this on an Aeolian roll and
would be interested to learn whether many rolls like this exist. I
cannot find this roll number in my records. Pity I do not have the box -
perhaps there would be more information on it.
