Hi Folks,
Today, from the island of Malta and the great-great grandson of
Gavioli Sr., I have received confirmation concerning the history of the
Gavioli Residence Organ currently in our possession. The following
IMPORTANT changes in our knowledge have been confirmed by a member of
the Gavioli family:
1. The organ in our possession was the FIRST one constructed but
not the only one constructed.
2. All previous information furnished to you is true but after the
FIRST one was constructed, a "refined" model was also produced
with the expectation that up to 12 more would be built.
3. As previously stated, a market review showed that no more should
be built as the market was "not there".
4. The first "production model", thus eventually went to a third
generation member of the Gaviloli family where it remains today.
5. Additional music is available to us from "duplicates" made for
the first and only production model. This will be immediately
purchased to bring our total of classical books to nearly 50.
This is more than enough for this instrument.
6. These instruments were produced to be installed "in the walls"
of a large home. The one we now own has a wonderful cabinet
produced in Italy by master craftsmen and then it was returned
to France, before WWII, to a collector from whom we obtained the
instrument nearly 60 years later.
We are now committed to a full and complete 'historical restoration".
We expect to return the instrument to Paris, France, without a MIDI
system, and with up to 50 original books for this instrument.
This is a part of mechanical music history that MUST be returned to
Paris, France, if at all possible. It is the first one built and has
significant "historical significance". We now have absolute
confirmation of its history and expect to have "archive proof" and
copies of original factory information about its construction furnished
by a member of the Gavioli family who has the archives.
We are absolutely obligated to return it to its birthplace.
With highest respect for the piece we now possess,
Rick and Betty Cooley
