Hi all, I have since given up on using Glad Wrap for pouches in the
universal block valves I am building. Thanks for all the advice by
everyone who contributed via email and the list.
What seems to be misunderstood often is the fact that I am out here
at the backside of the world. One cannot buy anything for orchestrions
here. It is easy to say that I should just try this or that material
or glue, etc., but the problem is that it is simply not available.
That is why Glad Wrap would have been a good option. It can be
purchased locally off the shelf.
Importing stuff is very expensive and I have to apply for foreign
exchange every time I purchase something and the banks charge a high
commission on that. Together with the high shipping cost and our
pathetic exchange rate (R10.00 = Pound 1.00 and R6.20 = $1.00) it
is simply not feasible to just import something to try it out.
Therefore I might appear crazy to some because I am trying all these
'silly' things but it is simply because I have to try to make do with
what is available and any help I can get.
This leads me to my next question and that would be pouch leather.
I will have to import this now for my valves. It comes in three
thickness from the Leather Supply House: 8-10 mils, 10-12 mils and
12-14 mils. I know the quick answer would be to just get the thinnest
one for pouches, but it is just about double the price of the others.
Could someone out there please tell me if 10-12 mils will be okay for
repetition in universal block valves, or if it has to be 8-10 mils
stuff. This would be for O-roll application. Please don't tell me to
'just try it out' with both types to see the difference, because I
don't and won't ever have both types. I can only import the final
decided thickness. All you orchestrion boffins out there, please help.
Kind Regards,
Bernt Damm
