Frequently Asked Questions & Free Advice
By Paul Tramm
I am new to the MMD and music in general. I am thirty and have just
started taking piano lessons (three weeks ago), a life-long desire.
Before I even would think of taking lessons I knew I needed a
piano. My search for a piano led me to a wonderful Aeolian Pianola
(Metrostyle-Themodist). The information on the MMD, John Tuttle's
player-care.com, and that of a friend led to my purchasing it. I can't
even begin to explain the amount of enthusiasm and pride I have for
this mechanical marvel.
Myself and Engineer, I can't stop looking at and reading about it's
construction. I've borrowed the Arthur A. Reblitz books from my
friend. Since my acquisition I've learned of another player piano that
an older couple wants to get out of their house. They didn't have
anyone to move it and were planning to let their teenage grandson have
a good time with a sledge-hammer. Needless to say I'm going to go
rescue it this weekend.
The energy and excitement that I feel towards restoring it is derived
from people like John Tuttle and everyone on the MMD. If I would have
had to pay for information from Mr. Tuttle or the MMD, I think the
grandson would be having some fun. I'm also sure that I wouldn't be
close to ordering some QRS rolls through Mr. Tuttle.
Mr. Tuttle: I'm perhaps on the older end of "Generation X" but I will
do my very best to carry on your hobby / profession. I would think the
satisfaction of knowing that there are younger people that share in
your passion will ease any frustrations you have towards our lack of
knowledge and perhaps ignorance.

P.S. It may be of note that I personally have never contacted
Mr. Tuttle with questions because I've easily found most of the
information I need on the MMD archives.
