I have some questions about lubricating motors. What I have read
indicates that you would use oil in a lubrication holder with a wick
and use grease if the motor has grease cups.
I am working on a Wurlitzer motor that has cast lubrication holders
above the motor shafts. There are caps on them and a stiff wire with a
loop at the top extending through a hole in the cap down through a hole
at the bottom of the lubrication holder, to touch the motor shaft.
Currently, there is nothing in these lubrication holders except what
appears to be a film of grease.
My questions are:
1. What does a grease cup look like?
2. Are what I described grease cups?
3. If they are, what kind of grease is used? Special electric motor
grease?
4. If not, are the wicks missing?
I have another Wurlitzer motor that has screw on lubrication holders
below the motor shaft with spring loaded wicks. I used 30 weight oil
to saturate the wicking at the bottom of the holders. Is this the
correct lubricant?
Thanks,
Jack Niewoehner
