Hello All,
It may be of interest to some members that an "ideal sublime harmonie
music box Swiss, 27" x 12" with 3 individual cylinders Jacot's
Patent Sept. 22, 1886" is being offered at auction this Sunday (Sept. 26)
at 12 noon by the County Line Auction Company of Amsterdam, New York.
Phone number is 518-842-8785, home number 518-736-2247.
Ord-Hume's book "The Musical Box A Guide For Collectors" describes this
instrument as being made by Mermod Freres, some mechanisms cased in
America while others appear to have been made entirely in Europe. If
the music box being offered is the Mermod Freres, it is one of their
better models, again according to Ord-Hume.
My call to the auction house was less than informative. A woman
answered who knew nothing about the music box except they had been told
it could sell for between $4,000 and $7,000 and that I should call back
on Friday after the truck had been unloaded. She did say it played well
and was in fine shape, in her opinion.
With some regrets, I reveal another of my sacred hunting grounds to the
ether.
Best Regards,
Wayne Eidelbus
