I have used PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) successfully as a lubricant
for wood. It is available as an aerosol spray, or as solid block. It is
the same stuff as is used in non-stick pans. [ Teflon ? ]
A good technique is to make small hollows in the sleeve and embed little
blocks of PTFE so that they are just proud of the surface.
I have not tried this in any musical instruments, but it could be worth
considering.
