To the MMD
Recently, there have been questions in this forum as to why PowerRolls
that were ordered some time ago, have not yet been delivered to the
customer. The reasons for the delays have been answered in the MMD by
Larry Broadmoore. The primary delay factor was Laurent Coray's grave
illness and its worsening in the first part of this year, and his final
passing in July. Laurent's company, Octet Design Corporation, designed
and supplies the midi translation electronics portion of the PowerRoll
as well as the external power supply.
Those who attended the PowerRoll seminar at the recent AMICA convention
have already received some of this information. We thank those who came
to the PowerRoll seminar. A similar presentation is planned to be
given at the MBSI convention in a few weeks.
I have been very encouraged to learn that, as far as I know, all those
who have received a PowerRoll are very pleased with their purchase.
Some of BRC's first customers have already ordered additional
PowerRolls.
At this moment in time, the PowerRoll has become, in a manner of
speaking, a "victim of it's own success." Many orders were placed as
a result of an impending price increase. This would normally be a good
kind of a problem for a growing company to experience; Unfortunately,
Laurent's health problems significantly worsened at the same time.
Larry Broadmoore's company, Broadmoore Research Corporation (BRC) is
doing virtually all of the PowerRoll manufacturing, except for the
external power supply and the MIDI note and function information
processor printed circuit board, inside the PowerRoll unit itself.
Both of these items are supplied by Octet Design. At this moment, the
greatest need is for the MIDI boards. Soon after, more power supplies
will be needed.
In the 990906 MMD, Ron Perry officially announced that he has acquired
Laurent's company, Octet Design. Ron is working hard to catch up
orders that were delayed by Laurent's untimely passing. Today, Ron
told me that one manufacturing lot of MIDI boards had just been
completed by the printed circuit board assembler and would be arriving
at Octet Design very soon. Ron fully tests and programs the boards
before they are shipped to BRC for assembly in the PowerRoll.
BRC currently has PowerRolls completed, minus the MIDI board. Once
the MIDI boards are received by BRC, it should be just a matter of days
before completed PowerRolls are ready for delivery to the customer.
My role with the BRC has been assisting with the sales and marketing of
the PowerRoll by doing presentations such as those mentioned above at
the AMICA and MBSI conventions. Continuing in this capacity, I will
also provide periodic updates in the MMD of PowerRoll manufacturing
status.
We appreciate the patience given by PowerRoll customers. If there are
any further questions, please feel free to let me know.
