Spencer Blower at Old Town Music Hall
By Vicki Webb

First of all, I want to thank those that responded to our quest for
a blower.

The Wurlitzer organ was playing again at the Friday night show!
There were two projects underway: one was to splice loaner blowers
into the main airway, the other was to remove and repair the old unit.

We were able to get into the blower room and had just enough room
to disassemble the blower and hand it out one piece at a time. The
crispy motor was taken to a shop in Monrovia CA to be rebuilt. In the
meantime, a five hp unit was found locally and negotiations were
underway on a second one.

The rebuilt motor was ready to pick up on Thursday. The blower was
re-assembled back in the closet and wired in. We had sort of figured
that the 74-year-old motor had just given up. Good fuses were
installed and the switch turned on. Silence!

The voltage was measured and we found that one leg of the three phase
mains was dead. It turned out that a connector in the box for the
power meter had failed. The power company toasted the motor.

The power company did fix their meter box equipment in a timely fashion
and we were ready to go. We are installing a modern motor controller
to ensure that this does not happen again.
