PianoDisc vs. QRS Pianomation
By David Fowler

Greetings all -- Once again, I'd like to call upon this group of
experts for your sage advice concerning a choice I need to make this
week.

I have installed several Pianomation units in various grand pianos in
the last few years and have been very pleased with their operation (and
customer support). I have not yet had the opportunity to install one
in an upright and had been considering putting one in a small Yamaha
upright we have in the house (I have several mechanical musical instru-
ments in various stages of restore in my shop). There is, however, a
Young Chang upright (complete with a PianoDisc unit with the record
strip and symphony) available locally for what I consider to be
reasonably priced.

So, the question is, which should I do? Or, more correctly, what is
your opinion of each unit? The advantages/disadvantages that you see
to each? Is the PianoDisc (which I'm not too familiar with, in all
honesty) as or more compatible with the available music as the
Pianomation? Are there discs interchangeable? What's your opinion?
We'd like to know.

One more thing you might want to factor in -- if I go with the Young
Chang, I'll (more likely than not and if they'd like to have it) donate
my Yamaha to my church) so please let me know your thoughts on this
matter.

Many thanks in advance,

David Fowler
