HI Tom, Player pianos were invented around 1897 and didn't go into
serious production until 1904. So any 'old west' music was produced
40-50 years before the advent of the player piano.
My knowledge of player piano music starts at around 1911, so I'm not
certain if it would be relative to the period in question. But, I'm
going to forward your request to a large group of mechanical music
enthusiasts and perhaps one of them will be able to aid you in your
quest.
Musically,
John A. Tuttle

Subject: recorded player piano / rinky-tink music
Dear Mr. Tuttle: I am directing a melodrama titled "The Saga of Katy"
which is set in an Old West saloon. We have a "mock" piano set up on
stage and the "dance hall girls" "play" it. I am looking for record-
ings of "rinky-tink" sounding piano music of the type that would have
been played in the Old West saloons and dance halls. Do you know where
I could buy recorded piano music that has that sound? We need polkas,
Can-Can, sad and dreary, and "chase" music.
Thanks,
