I have just returned from a wonderful six week holiday in England
and France. I saw lots of mechanical music, the eclipse, the Channel
Tunnel and the largest Ferris/observation wheel in the world being
built in London on the Thames.
Unfortunately about five days before my return I had a major flood in
my house. A Crane toilet tank on the upper floor shattered and let
water flood through three floors for about eight hours. Although there
was in excess of fifty thousand dollars worth of damage, none of the
mechanical music collection was touched. I am writing to the MMD not
to solicit sympathy or contributions, but rather to warn the Canadian
MMD members of a potential danger lurking in their houses.
Over 14,000 Canadian Crane toilet tanks have thus far shattered. Crane
has lost a class action law suit in the Canadian courts. Any toilet
tank manufactured by Crane in Canada between 1980 and 1991 should be
considered suspect. Crane have set up a toll free number for help:
1-888-844-4279. Before phoning make a note of the serial number em-
bossed in the inside of the tank. If your tank turns out to be suspect
Crane will replace it very promptly for a nominal sum.
I hope this info may prevent someone else from having a similar problem
to mine.
Regards to all
Phil Dayson
