Re: 990810 MMD, Carousel Organ at Lincoln Park, Dartmouth MA
I visited PTC #54 at its new location at Fall River (Massachusetts)
Heritage Park with the 1992 National Carousel Association convention.
That was the first year of its operation at the new location.
The organ which was there at that time, and is presumably still there,
was an unusual one, apparently not made by any of the American manu-
facturers, yet I seem to recall someone saying it was a North Tonawanda
Musical Instrument Works organ. However, I have found no picture in
any catalog or other reference source showing a facade like it.
It very vaguely resembles the later case style Wurlitzer 146B, espe-
cially as to the side wings. But it is definitely not a Wurlitzer.
It uses some sort of round leather belt and pulley arrangement to drive
the roll frame. It has been equipped with a Wurlitzer style single
roll frame, and plays Wurlitzer Style 150 rolls, of which they had a
nice selection. I videotaped the exterior and interior of the organ at
that time, and have viewed the tape within the last month or so, so my
recollection of that organ is accurate. But I myself would love to
know the manufacturer.
I do not know whether it was with the carousel while at Lincoln Park
in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, or whether it was acquired when the
carousel was purchased for the state park. Someone at Fall River
Heritage Park can answer that question, or can put you in touch with
those involved in saving the carousel.
Good luck with your book.
