Pickup Cartridges for Old Phonographs
By Craig Smith

Andy Taylor wrote about converting a 78 rpm phono turntable to 3-speed
operation and installing a new cartridge. I expect that the original
cartridge was a crystal cartridge and the new one is ceramic or
magnetic. I will look around and see if I have an old cartridge that
will do the job. Lacking that, just about any old amp-preamp will
boost the output enough to restore the original volume level. Just
hide it in the back of the cabinet with the speed control.
