Dear MMD, I did some additional research about the pipe organ Rick
Cooley was writing about (990730 MMDigest), and I found no reference
at all. That does not mean, however, that this type of organ is not
original, or not made by Gavioli.
A very wide range of mechanical musical instruments were made by
Gavioli in Paris, the only Gavioli factory where instruments other
than fairground organs were produced. All organ-like instruments were
depicted as "Gavioliphone", like Limonaire used the name "Orchestro-
phone". It is not listed in the 1904 Gavioli catalog that I possess.
I am extremely interested in further details of this instrument,
which must have been made between 1892 and 1905. The book system was
invented in 1892, and after 1904 the company's name had changed to
"Gavioli S.A". I hope that Philippe Rouille can cast a bit more light
on the matter.
Best regards from Holland,
