P.A. Stark Transposing Tracker Bar Question
By Gary Rasmussen

Hello!

It sounds like you have a player just like the very first one I rebuilt
(when I had no idea what I was doing!). This is the exact piano that
got me hooked on automatic musical instruments!

Did you check behind the tracker bar? In the spoolbox, in the bottom
of the area where the roll is installed, there is a wooden cover,
probably held in with 4 screws. Remove this cover. You will probably
find all of the rubber tubes connecting the trackerbar to the lead
tubes on the back, in pieces. From what you described, if you replace
these hoses, you might get some sound out of this instrument!

There isn't really much to knowing how to replace these hoses. The
tubes in the tracker bar are in the same order as the lead tubes. The
only other tube that might be there would be for the automatic sustain
pedal, if this piano has one. You will want to get tubing from a player
piano supply house. Don't use aquarium tubing (like I did at first!).

I think you'll find that the transposer shifts 1/2 step, or one tracker
bar hole, per position. I really enjoyed having a transposing player.
It made it easy to get the music in singing range during our sing along
parties!

Let me know if I can be of any further help on this.
