I had an big old Schubert piano we had bought in 1976, after the family
home burned in 1975, It was a very handsome heavily carved , very tall,
(about 57" if I recall) upright.
I never did like that thing musically though. it sounded awful, even
when it was in tune. The action was in pretty bad shape, and the
strings were rusted badly right above the pressure bar. Mom loved that
piano because it was _pretty_ and it was a very nice looking case. I
planned to rebuild it later, and install a Pianomation.
I was watching a western (I don't recall the title of the movie) on
TV a few years ago, and right in the middle of a bar fight, there was
the Schubert's twin, and the "bad guys" were getting thrown against it.
OUCH!
I don't know if there was many Schubert Pianos made, I have only seen
two in my lifetime, and it was a different case style, but it was also
heavily carved as well.
When my Dad sold the farm, my older brother wanted a piano, so I gave
him a restorable Shultz player.. Unbeknown to me, he also took the
Schubert without my permission. suffice it to say, we haven't been on
good terms since. Like I told him, the piano was junk-bait, but he
should have asked first.
