I've received a request via radio station WCLV, as follows:
> I am looking for a recording, which may not exist, of dance music
> from the WW1 era, when they did things like the schottische and the
> turkey trot. There must be some sort of salon kind of thing which
> evokes potted palms and big hats. ...
As most of you know, this isn't exactly my area of expertise, nor is it
germane to what we offer on WCLV. Naturally there is a great deal of
stuff around, but I lack catalog detail. I know for one thing that the
British company "ASV" has an extensive series of reissues of jazz and
swing, as well as the potted palm music to which the inquirer refers.
There used to be a wonderful collection on Angel Records by a San
Francisco ensemble of "Palm Court" music, but it never made it to CD.
If you can help to supply company and number, plus performers, I'd
appreciate assistance from MMD'ers "into" this sort of thing.
