I spent the morning going through papers stored 20+ years in my folks
basement. I came across a 1976 catalog from American International
Galleries, Automatic Musical Instruments for sale, 76 pages to drool
over with pictures and prices. It is the combination of sales from
the Hathaway, Bowers, Friberg and Tekstra collections. I found the
following interesting for their seeming low prices compared to today:
Chordephon Automatic Zither, 195.00
Lots of upright disc boxes 1500-1900
Hupfield model A Phonoliszt-Violina duplex roll changer, 29,995
Hupfield orchestrion art case 19,995
Popper Roland , with automated peacock orchestrion 15,999
Wurlitzer CX with wonder light 15,999
and the following that haven't changed that much:
American Style 50 photoplayer 15,999
paper roll organettes 600-800
Marshall and Wendell B ampico 4,999
Swiss cylinder music boxes 600-1200
Mason and Hamlin Ampico B 19,500
Steinway Duo-Art, 2 at 10,000
Just thought that might be interesting to others who use the
justification of investments when we need to rationalize a new toy.
