Hal Davis commented, "When I was a little boy I wanted to be the one
that drove the big locomotive on the railroad, and I also had another
dream of being the one that played the big pipe organ in the movie
theater."
Me too, Hal ! And I also fulfilled my boyhood ambition: after having
been an engineer with the Lehigh Valley Railroad, and later Conrail,
I am now retired to a life of playing with live steam models of trains!
Needless to say, sitting here listening to the automatic musical
instruments, and playing with the live steamers and other mechanical
toys, keeps me happy in my retirement. Unfortunately, I had to retire
at an early age due to an accident while working. This does cut into
how active I can be. But I still manage to have a good time.
I once mentioned to a good friend, Cmdr. E. J. Quinby, USN ret., how
I noticed a core group that would appear at any function I went to.
If a steam boat was running, steam locomotive on a tour, or a concert
on a huge Theater Organ took place, there was always the same group
of fans present. He mentioned that he had pondered this very thing
himself, and he concluded that the common bond was, "These are the
people on this Earth with good taste!"
It sure makes sense to me! Oh well, back to the shop, where my work
today will be on my 1927 Indian Scout motorcycle. (I can't ride them
anymore, but working on them is still fun!)
