The transformer that supplies the power to the credit solenoid in my
Violano is an original American Flyer toy train transformer. There was
an original bracket installed to hold the dry cells which had rusted
away from the acid. I suppose the transformer was added later after
they got tired of paying for all those dry cells.
I know for a fact that there was a remote wall box in the original
installation. When I first got my Violano from the original family,
I found inside the drawer an old note left to the repairman written on
a letter head for the store that it was in. The name of the store was
the Natchez Confectionary, 407 Main St., Natchez, MS. The note read
as follows:
"Just after you left, someone put a nickel in the cigar counter box
and the motor started but the music didn't. I investigated and
found the roll of music on the outside of the roller instead of
behind it. As a result, the roll was torn. I replaced the music
roll, but found only the violin would play. Therefore I looked at
the fuses and found this one blown, but had no fuse wire so had to
leave it alone awaiting you.
"I have the machine switch on 'off' and have the socket switch on
the Newell post fixture turned off, as I fear to start instrument
with the torn roll will blow any fuse installed in place of this one
which is out now. Please do the needful."
I scanned the note and am enclosing two pictures of the note, front
and back. Perhaps if anyone is interested they can be posted on the
MMD web site.
