Hi All, Below is a description of an instrument that I have not been
able to identify in any way. Please help if you can.

Dear John, Thanks so much for the effort of putting your music on the
web page. I have really enjoyed them.
I recently purchased an instrument that looks much like a small early
American portable piano. It is not a piano. This is 32 inches high,
35 inches wide, 22 inches deep and has 49 keys. The music is produced
when a felt hammer, much like a in piano, strikes one of the silver-
plated steel plates inside the unit. The plates are mounted to an oak
sounding board, with one inch holes bored beneath the plates.
This instrument has all the indications that it had player ability at
one time. It has the sound of a music chime or xylophone. It is in
good condition, and is attractive in its own crude and early American
fashion. The name, not too visible on the front, is Shackelton of
Louisville KY.
I have been unable to find any information as to what it was called,
how old it is, and how I can restore the player system. There are no
known markings, stampings, etc. The keys are stamped per note and hand
ground to be in tune. I hope you could provide me with some direction.
Thank you much
Richard Bixby
