After many years of planning and discussions we have now completed the
building of the extension to the Museum. This will now house the large
121-key Decap organ known as "England's Pride", and therefore relinquish
more floor space for seating.
The other large organs in the collection are a 95-key Bursens cafe
organ, circa 1935, "Jeanneke", the 92-key Decap dance organ, circa 1949
and a 97-key 5-case Mortier organ, circa 1920, also known as "The Four
Columns." Our 3-manual, 10-rank Wurlitzer is currently having three
extra ranks added to it and our other theatre organ, the very rare
3-manual, 6 rank Spurden-Rutt organ is also being extended to 8 ranks.
The museum also has numerous smaller exhibits including reproducing
pianos, musical boxes and organettes. We also have a Mills Violano
Virtuoso.
The collection was started by Charles Hart back in the 1950's and his
wishes were that it was to continue after his death. Accordingly, the
Museum is now a registered charity and is run entirely by volunteers on
a very limited budget.
The Museum opens every Sunday from 2 PM until 4:30 PM where a complete
tour of all the instruments is given with a friendly and non-formal
descriptive commentary.
The Museum's shop stocks a comprehensive selection of Cassettes and
CD's of both mechanical and non-mechanical instruments from the
collection and from other instruments abroad as well as numerous
publications.
We would be very pleased to send you our latest catalogue for just the
price of the mailing stamp. Our mailing point is:-
St. Albans Organ Museum, PO Box 59, St. Albans, Hertfordshire, AL2 2BF,
England.
regards to all, Ken Slow.
