The New York Times of July 4, 1999, has quite a lengthy article on Wayne
Stahnke, his Ampico project and news of Telarc's release of his second
CD of his Boesendorfer playing more Rachmaninoff. The article goes
into great detail about the efforts of Edgar Fairchild and his
relationship with Rachmaninoff.
According to the article, Rachmaninoff, by signing up with the American
Piano Company literally "put them on the map" as other companies, Welte
and Aeolian, already had a "stable" of artists. The presentation in-
cludes a large picture of Wayne in front of his piano, a photo of an
Ampico recording and Rachmaninoff seated at the piano in 1937.
The article is by Barbara Jepson who writes regularly about music for
The Wall Street Journal.
Look in the music section of the paper. We get a regional edition here
in Texas and I am sure the page numbers are different than those of the
"real" Times published in Manhattan.
