Thanks to A. B. Bonds for the correction regarding the Theremin-like
sounds in the film "Forbidden Planet." I got my "facts" from a story
on a Theremin web site and from a movie magazine piece from long ago.
Also enjoyed Mark Kinsler's note about the film's story line tracking
that of Will Shakespeare's "The Tempest". I'll have to re-read that;
interesting theory. And was the robot's voice actually that of TV's
"The Millionaire", as Mark has surmised? Whoever it was, he infused
the clatteringly droll Robbie with a real personality; by the end of
the movie, I really had grown fond of the old boy -- something a lot of
actors (and writers) don't manage to get accomplished with their human
characters.
Does anyone else have further technical or trivia info on this film?
I'm always impressed by the depth of knowledge possessed by the few
hundred -- What, Robbie? 500 or so? -- folks who make up our list.
Reminds me -- I must owe another year's subscription pretty soon.
Is there any way for you editors to "flag" us when our numbers are up
(so to speak)?
