On Monday, June 28th, I went up to Gap, PA on route 30. It was an easy
trip from northern Virginia, where I live going up Highway 15 and took
a little over two hours. Several years ago a piano roll collector
friend in Philadelphia, Frank Basil, told me about this place in Gap
and about Mike Naddeo, its owner.
When I went in it was like walking into a warehouse circa 1929 with all
the old phonographs, player pianos and nickelodeons leaving only about
a 3 foot space to walk and for me, to just stare at all of this old
musical memorabilia. For those interested in player pianos he has an
Estey-Welte upright, several Steinway Duo-Art uprights and several
other makes of regular player pianos.
He works for quality and in the process told me he and his partner
rebuild about 15 players a year from the ground up. I thought I would
let the MMD members in the mid-Atlantic region, i.e., metropolitan DC,
Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania know about Mike and
his business as he does not have a computer. As he told me, he would
probably spend too much time with it instead of his business so I
decided I would use this means to contact others about him.
He plans to hold a meeting of the MBSI in September near his business
and I am sure there are those who know him and those who don't who
would be interested.
His telephone number is 717-299-4264 and you need to call ahead to make
an appointment to see his place and talk with him. Happy hunting for
AMICAns and MBSIers.
