FS: MIDI Files of Original 58-note A-rolls
By Stephen Kent Goodman

Announcing an important library of 58-note MIDI files for sale.
These were optically scanned from original A-rolls, but without the
control holes, allowing them to be adapted/edited for your specific use
(example: Aeolian Orchestrelle 58-note, standard 88-note player piano,
any type of instrument with a chromatic player stack of at least 58
notes, C3 to A7).

The range of styles and years is impressive; from early "S" rolls
(1913 !) to early-mid-'Twenties. Companies include outstanding
Columbia A-roll arrangements, Clarks (really "Hot Stuff"), Automatic
and U.S. Music Roll A-rolls from the WW1 era as well.

Now, as most of you advanced collectors know, sometimes the arranging
department made mistakes in harmony notes (as well as a few misplaced
"clams" in the melody!), and/or the duplicating perforator would get a
note or two jammed up with paper, so the tune would have a few rough
spots here and there. Fortunately, I employed my skills as a music
arranger/composer intimately familiar with the styles of music from the
period 1900-1920, to individually groom not only those "clams" left in
the original rolls, but clean up errant notes often created by the
scanning and conversion to MIDI process. The results are clean,
musically accurate files that are actually more musically accurate than
the original paper they were transcribed from.

No matter what type of MIDI system or instrument equipped with MIDI
you have, you won't want to miss this opportunity. Tunes and rolls of
their origin are identified where possible; quite a few tunes are
nameless and if you recognize them, please send me their titles so
I may "fill in the gaps" and give you credit on future issues.

Pricing: $2.50 per tune, or $25 per 10-tune roll (on 3.5" disk), less
expensive than their paper recuts! 1 roll minimum. For use on one
instrument or computer, multiple uses, e-mail for pricing.

Customizing to your instrument's register and expression system is of
course available by me for an additional fee per tune, or you may elect
to "do-it-yourself" (my own personal set is registered to operate on
the Philipps PM scale).

European instrument owners: amaze your friends and other collectors
when they hear your Hupfeld, Poppers, Losche or whatever playing
American A-roll music! And they thought Tin Pan Alley was only in
America!

Contact me at: skgoodman@mindspring.com for a tune/roll list.

Musically,

Stephen Kent Goodman
