> I am looking for a music box that plays any African tune. Please help.
I am not aware of African music on cylinder boxes, but that doesn't
mean it didn't happen. Cylinder musical boxes were mostly made in
Switzerland, and the music put on the cylinders was from Europe, the
British Isles (including Scotland), and America. I am not aware of
musical boxes being made in Africa; the tunes, then, would have been
from that area.
On discs, however, there are tunes that would refer to the activities
and lives and humor of the slaves, and actually I believe I have seen
such tunes on cylinders, but I don't recall where. You might review the
tune sheet project in the publications from the MBSI, to see if you can
spot any African tunes. if you do see such tunes, I am sure we'd all
like to know about them.
