A note to all of you who have Disklaviers, PianoDiscs or Pianomation
units in your pianos. I just purchased Richard Brandle's WindPlay
(fifty smackers) and Wayne Stahnke's software disc ($140 plus tax and
shipping), and together they are sensational.
Wayne's disc holds about 780 pieces altogether: the vast majority
is Ampico but there is a nice selection of Duo-Arts, Weltes, and
88-noters. Some of the 88-note pieces have words, which is a trip in
itself. I _highly_ recommend this software. The expression is easily
as good as any of the rolls that it is taken from, and possibly a
little better because there is no tracking problem ever.
And a note to all you pneumatic "users": don't feel left in the dark
because these two software pieces were actually made to work with Larry
Broadmoore's PowerRoll, which attaches easily to your tracker bar and
plays the same music, but only expresses on the system you have --
i.e., if you have Ampico, it will play the expression perfectly, but
will play the Welte, D-A, and 88-note only as 88-note without
expression.
Likewise, Welte owners can clip the PowerRoll onto their players and
enjoy the Welte music as it should be, but the A, D-A, and 88-note will
only play as 88-note. And so on with the other two systems. (Inci-
dentally, the price on the PowerRoll will rise in a couple of weeks
from $1,500 to $2,500, so if you are sitting on the fence about buying
this wonderful auxiliary unit, now might be the time to take action.
The PowerRoll requires the use of a computer or a special CD player in
combination with a pneumatic piano system.)
But that is not why I am writing. I am asking for additional music
that is compatible for the WindPlay system. Is anyone out there
creating music for this unit? I'd love to know about it, and know
I am not alone.
Best regards,
Tom Steuer
