Ampico and Artecho System Similarities
By Michael Swanson

I would like to start by saying thank you to David Saul, Dean Randall
and Craig Brougher for their scholarly answers to my questions about
Art Echo and Ampico similarities and differences. It just goes to show
that usually when something seems simple on the surface when you get
down to the heart of the matter there is almost always more than meets
the eye.

That seems to be the case here, when you look at the expression layout
of the two systems they appear to be very similar. However, after the
very detailed and thorough explanation of the Art Echo system and the
comparison to the Ampico system it is apparent that the two are quite
different.

This is unfortunate since an easy transfer of one system to another
could have made many titles and performances unavailable on the Ampico,
a relatively easy thing to do. This is especially sad since many of the
Art Echo rolls were derived from Welte masters. Also, this would have
given impetus to the scanning of Art Echo rolls so many of these
performances would be saved.

Oh well, I guess it's the thought that counts.
